How Pond Aerators Really Works

Tue Jan 10, 2012 9:38 PM EST

By Salvatore ojJoseejphParygisiBlog

To be able to have a very lively pond, the use of pond aerators should be done so that oxygen will fill up the pond.

The bacteria are responsible for the rotten matter such as fish wastes and fallen leaves, this makes the bacteria very needed in the pond. In every pond, there is always the presence of bacteria, but with the pond aerators, they could also make productive bacteria. Having these kinds of bacteria can not only trim down algae but can also turn organic matter and toxic ammonia unto harmless nitrates, which is healthier for the fish.

We can now see the importance of aerators in keeping the healthiness of both ponds and lakes. The advantage of pond aerators is that they can be a good place for fishes to live and for people to swim. Aerators also add to the beauty and attraction of a pond.

With the aerator as a fountain, it can put an artsy feel to the lake or pond. This type is eye candy, but it has a disadvantage. These water fountains can prevent the building up of algae on the surface, but they cannot supply enough oxygen down below a lake or pond.

For deeper ponds, the best type to use is the diffused aerator. In the depths of the pond is where these diffused aeration systems are placed, and will then oxygenate the pond by letting the oxygen scatter. Air diffusers are in the bottom so that they can move bubbles going to the surface.

Bubbles will still come out of air diffusers even if they are really at the bottom of the pond. The pond will now receive oxygen through the tiny bubbles. Both residential and commercial ponds are more in favor of the diffused pond aerators.

Even if it is just a shallow pond, diffused aerators would still be utilized because of their usefulness. It is more practical than the fountain ones, due to the fact that they save more energy unlike the fountains that would still have to push water upwards. High volume surface aerators are what diffused aerators are called in low ponds.

Taking care of it is not a big problem because the electric motor is not very deep. The engine will be able to work even with only a little oil in it. The air filter, on the other hand, needs to be cleaned and the gasket replaced periodically.

Air compressors may vary. For ponds that have depth, there is the diaphragm compressor, which has great pressure and decreased volume. The most popular ones, however, are the linear compressors because they are silent, reliable and energy efficient, making them very effective in both deep and shallow ponds, as well as tanks, aquariums, lakes and other applications.

The one that uses high pressure and low volume that is perfect for deeper ponds is called the diaphragm compressor. Another type is the linear compressors, which are very popular since they are quiet and they can be used in both shallow and deep ponds and in tanks, aquariums and even in lakes. If the pond or lake is big but it only has depth of 18 feet, then we have the rotary vane compressors that can be used.
